You can find it on Natalie Grant’s latest CD as well as on Shelly’s CD. I can only call her my friend because we spent a few days serving together in 2008 in Cape Town, South Africa. We were both staying at the Team House and working on projects for Living Hope. I first heard Shelly sing this song in morning worship at King of Kings Church and it captured my heart.

There are other songs with the same title that are wonderful proclamations of God’s power, but the lyrics of this song speak to the freedom that comes through Christ! It’s a beautiful song, with very powerful lyrics. Freedom – seeing chains fall – the message of transformation that the cross brings! Shelly captured it in this song. She was inspired watching the changed lives at a shelter in Nashville where she volunteers. And that transformation happens around the world – in shelters, and churches, and in the wilderness, and the slums – on the continents of Africa, Europe, Asia and even in North America.

“Power of the Cross” by Shelley Johnson

Once in darkness now in light
Once blind now you see
Once a sinner now a saint
Once bound now free.

[CHORUS:]
That’s the power of the Cross See the chains fall
That’s the power of the Cross See the chains fall

Once a stranger now a child
Empty now filled
Once condemned now reconciled
Broken now healed

[CHORUS:]
That’s the power of the Cross
See the chains fall
That’s the power of the Cross
See the chains fall

Once a prodigal now home
Once lost now found
Once an enemy now a friend
Once poor now crowned

[CHORUS:]
That’s the power of the Cross See the chains fall
That’s the power of the Cross See the chains fall
See the chains
See your chains fall!!!!

Sunday AM sermon – “Attributes of God – Omnipotent” A. – God has limitless power.
