1000 Days – Goals

I have some goals in mind for the next 1000 days. This is a specific time frame that has meaning for me. The date will be August 13, 2013 and I will be one/half century.

These goals range from easy to difficult to seemingly impossible – and that’s OK. They are GOALS, not demands and nobody’s life depends on them to be checked off my list. But they are good marks for me to move toward and work for and set my sights on…

My goals involve all aspects of the Greatest Commandment:

Mark 12:30 ESV And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Look at this same verse in The Message translation!

Mark 12:30 The Message ”so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.’

Heart/Passion – what I care about, focus my time and attention toward
Soul/Prayer – how I trust God, how I speak with Him
Mind/Intelligence – my thoughts, my work ethic, my stewardship
Strength/Energy – my physical abilities/limitations, stewarding myself

Goal #1 is to spend each day with an appropriate focus on these four aspects. I cannot control the next 1000 days. I can’t even control today! But I can dwell in His presence and enjoy this day in His courts. This info below was so timely in my devotion today – it’s about 1000 days not being equal to one day in God’s presence!

Psalm 84:10a ESV For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.

  • You find love, joy, peace and comfort in His presence.
  • As you enter his presence he draws you into His embrace.
  • In His presence there is no for fear, sadness or despair because,
  • when you enter His presence they have to leave.
  • His presence is a place of quiet worship or uncontrollable praise.
  • His presence is where you meet with Him and share the innermost secrets of your heart and then listen to what He has to say to you.
  • In His presence we find the answers to every question we can ever think to ask.

A Math Problem

The problem: There’s a box with a hole at each end, and
there’s a rabbit in the box. The rabbit sticks his head out
of the hole in one end, and a minute later he sticks it out
the other end. Half a minute later, his head appears at the
opposite end, a fourth of a minute later it appears at the
end opposite to that one, an eighth of a minute later, etc.,
etc. How long will it take before the rabbit sticks its head
out of both ends of the box at the same time?

  • In theory, two minutes.
  • In practice, no answer is possible unless you split hares.

What are you hungry for?

That’s a great question – it’s asked a lot on Sunday after church.

Physical hunger happens all the time, but not really for me. I’m not sure I’ve ever been really hungry. In fact, I’ve almost trained myself to not be hungry for a day or so (due to bad eating habits – don’t try it!) But there are people who are really hungry – starving to death. They realize the value of a bite of food – whatever it tastes like… Personally, I want great taste – and I’m spoiled by it.

Eating habits:
1) Feed Regularly
2) Balanced Diet
3) Watch the content
4) Share with others

How about these for your Spiritual Diet as well:
1) Spend time in prayer, Bible study, and worship as often as you eat food
2) Keep your intake pure and healthy – with what you crave as well as what you need
3) Stay away from fake food – unnatural materials
4) Fellowship and evangelism

Ps 34:8-10 The Message
Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—
how good God is.
Blessed are you who run to him.
Worship God if you want the best;
worship opens doors to all his goodness.
Young lions on the prowl get hungry,
but God-seekers are full of God.

Great worship song – great heart attitude…

What are you hungry for?

hungry I come to You
for I know You satisfy
I am empty
but I know Your love does not run dry
so I wait for You
so I wait for You

chorus
I’m falling on my knees
offering all of me
Jesus, You’re all this heart is living for

broken I run to You
for Your arms are open wide
I am weary but I know Your touch restores my life
so I’ll wait for You
so I’ll wait for You

I’m falling on my knees
offering all of me
Jesus, You’re all this heart is living for
Oh, I’m falling on my knees
offering all of me
Jesus, You’re all this heart is living for

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name!

Below are powerful words to a hymn published about 1780. The second word there is ‘hail’. What does it mean? One definition is small pellets or balls of ice, but that’s not the meaning in the hymn. Here are some possible definitions:

1) to cheer, salute or greet; welcome
2) to acclaim; approve enthusiastically
3) to call out to greet, attract attention

How would you define what you do with the name of Jesus?

All hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.

Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race,
ye ransomed from the Fall,
hail Him who saves you by His grace,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Hail Him who saves you by His grace,
and crown Him Lord of all.

Let every kindred, every tribe
on this terrestrial ball,
to Him all majesty ascribe,
and crown Him Lord of all.
To Him all majesty ascribe,
and crown Him Lord of all.

O that with yonder sacred throng
we at His feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song,
and crown Him Lord of all.
We’ll join the everlasting song,
and crown Him Lord of all.

Tip: browsers and stuff

Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox and Chrome – 4 browsers…each with different strengths and weaknesses

Chrome is my current browser of choice, but I have IE and Firefox installed on my personal and work machines as well.

Internet Explorer is still the de facto standard. Most websites will open and render OK with IE.

Firefox has lots of cool extensions (tools) that make some tasks easier – like debugging a webpage. It is a pretty good alternative to IE.

Safari is a browser that was developed for Apple that is available for Windows machines – but why?

Chrome is the latest browser offering, released in 2008 by Google. It’s fast, secure, simple and stable. It’s appearance is very minimalistic – and that’s a good thing. This browser also checks against phishing and malware blacklists as a security measure. And it’s FAST – check out the October 2010 benchmarks!!!

A few reasons I use Chrome as my main browser:

  1. It’s FAST!
  2. Tabs – Did you know that if you right-click on any tab you can pin it to the left of your tabs bar and it stays open??? Kewl!
  3. Address/Search bar – no need to separate address and search bars now! And you can put in simple calculations too. Try it! Put in 1492+345*3 and you’ll see a row drop down beneath the bar with the answer “=2527”. No need to keep that shortcut to the calculator as an icon on your desktop.
  4. Application Shortcuts – create standalone apps from webpages for sites that you use frequently. Go to Tools –> Create application shortcuts, choose one or more – Desktop, Start Menu, Taskbar.
  5. The bookmarks sync feature backs up your browser bookmarks to your Google account and syncs when you are on Chrome on a different computer. Your favorites are saved with your Google settings and not just on your machine.

If you haven’t given Chrome a try, what are you waiting for? Installing a new browser is not hard – and the benefits you’ll see may be worth a change on your desktop. 🙂
